Skin wisdom from someone whose photo would appear next to the definition of ‘radiant’ in the dictionary
I first met Vita Catanzariti, founder of Dolce Vita Skin in Erina, when we sat next to one another at a Biologique Recherche event and I passed her the butter. She was so chic and glowy that if all the lights went out in the dining room, we could have just huddled around her to see what we were eating. Serendipitously, a few months later, I visited Vita at her clinic, where she healed my skin and my spirit with her sagacity, deft hands, and high-tech tools. She also introduced me to Rationale and Biologique Recherche’s legendary P50 lotion—two very hyped products that I had decided weren’t for me because apparently they were for everyone else. I’m not too proud to admit I was wrong. I am now in an all-out love affair with the powerful and effective combination of all three—Rationale #4 Cleanser, #4 Crème, and BR’s P50V Lotion—and we plan to live happily ever after (or until one of them runs out). I asked Vita a few things every beauty obsessive wants to know…
MY SKIN ETHOS is all about keeping it simple through consistency. That starts from within including health, wellness and mindfulness. Our skin is an indication of our health and so much more than what you are using topically.
IN THE CLINIC, THIS COMES TO LIFE through the internal support of our nutritionist who provides diet recommendations, treatments that won’t upset the skin barrier and adding in products that work at a cellular level to create change in the skin with any issues. We create a treatment plan that is tailored specifically for each individual and don’t overdo it with treatments. Finding balance is the key.
WHAT WE ARE SEEING MOST IN SKIN THESE DAYS is skin types that are stressed. Life is so busy and increased stress levels can lead to breakouts and sensitive skin issues. We’re also seeing more and more menopausal skin types that are losing collagen production, and thinner skin that’s dull and lifeless.
SOME OF THE KEY COMPLAINTS THAT WE HEAR include that people are time poor; it’s hard to fit treatments and skin care in with everything else. Anti-ageing is still huge, clients want to look younger. But education is key, understanding where you sit in the natural ageing process will determine which products and treatments are best suited to your skin conditions. Prevention is also super important; starting a great routine as early as possible is the secret to great skin later in life. It's never too late if you’re only just getting started.
A TREATMENT THAT DESERVES ALL THE HYPE is definitely the Sofwave. It’s excellent for people who don’t want surgery but are looking to lift and tighten their skin. It’s a one-off treatment for collagen banking and there’s no downtime. I’ve personally had two treatments now, 12 months apart, and am loving the results.
THE BEST ADD-ON TREATMENT WOULD HAVE TO BE the HydraFacial. We love to pre-condition the skin prior to any cosmetic treatment and this will give you a thorough clean as well as long-lasting results to any cosmetic injectable treatment or dermal therapy treatment. It’s also popular when someone is introducing a skin care routine to get the best absorption of product, the skin is always left glowing and fresh. It’s a great entry point treatment to anyone new to the clinic and a top treatment for men.
MY FAVOURITE SKIN CARE HACK IS doing a double cleanse at night. You need to get your day off your face; remove all dirt, grime, makeup and sunscreen. I love using my cleanser as a mask and leave it on longer at the second cleanse. It’s a great way to add extra hydration to the skin. My all-time favourite is the Rationale #4 Cleanser, it’s creamy and leaves your skin so calm and hydrated.
MY THREE DESERT ISLAND PRODUCTS ARE firstly, sunscreen — a must. A tinted serum like P50V Lotion from Biologique Recherche. And a good moisturiser to protect and keep skin hydrated, my favourite is the Reparative Moisture Emulsion from IS clinical — it’s light and dewy.
